Teresa Guiccioli

Also in 1818 he met Teresa Guiccioli, to whom he became deeply attached; she left her husband for him in 1821. Shelley persuaded Claire to send Allegra to her father, convinced that her father’s wealth and status would benefit the child. Byron kept her with him but eventually tired of her, and sent her to a convent where she died in 1822 at the age of five. This event caused a rift between Byron and Shelley, who died in July of the same year.
